Our Millsaps Majors Track and Field team is ready for the quickly approaching season to officially start February 15 at Birmingham Southern. With big goals in mind for all aspects of the sport-throws, sprints and distance-the Majors will settle for nothing less than first at the conference meet in late April.

“I’m extremely excited to start the track season,” says Courtney Aymett, senior distance runner. “I can’t believe this is my last season, along with several other seniors. I’m so amazed at how far we’ve come over the past four years and I couldn’t say there is a better team I could have worked with than the team we have here.”

Aymett and many others are ready to take on the season’s challenges and take home conference titles in all events. Alexis Guice, senior and women’s team captain hopes to see the team take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in discus and hammerthrow at the conference meet, as well as see the entire team perform their best and “give Rhodes a good run for 1st place.”

“We are working hard to achieve our goals and preparing for the indoor meet in Birmingham,” says junior team captain Ben Parva. “We are excited about the new members of our team this year and know they will make great contributions this season. Despite a small team compared to other schools in the conference, such as Rhodes and Centre, our team fought hard and placed 4th last year. As a team, we want to also continue our pursuit of Arete, the Greek concept of excellence. This means that each athlete is committing to pursue the best of themselves, and be the best they can be.”
