This week’s Millsapian is Samesa Hoskin, a senior political science major and communication studies minor from Indianola, Miss. She’s served as a member of the Student Body Association, Pan-African Student Alliance, Young Democrats, and the Major Havoc Theatre Company. She also on the Mock Trial team, and is a part of Pride and the Political Science Club. Samesa was also inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa honorary.

The Purple and White: What made you come to Millsaps?

Samesa Hoskin: Millsaps is the most the rigorous and resourceful school in the state. I was attracted to the small classrooms and seasoned professors. I was also offered a great academic scholarship package.

P&W: If you could, what would you change about our campus?

SH: I feel like if we were able to financially address infrastructure issues on campus, we would be able to offer a better living environment that matches people’s expectations.

P&W: What one day do you wish you could re-live and why?

SH:  During the Yucatan semester program, I got the opportunity to swim in the waterfalls of Palenque between the Mexican and Guatemalan border. I felt free.

P&W: What legacy do you hope to leave behind at Millsaps?

SH: (I hope to leave) one of continuous growth.

P&W: If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

SH: I would eat fruit because (it) can be filling and healthy.

P&W: What do you hope to do after graduation?

SH: This summer I’ll be working with Teach for America as an Operations Director. Afterwards, I hope to gain a master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration and then a Juris Doctorate.

P&W: What person has made the biggest impact on you thus far?

SH: My family has a lot to do with my motivation to succeed, but there are so many people who inspire me every day. You can never know everything, so I try to learn from everyone I interact with.

P&W: If you could have a one hour conversation with someone from the past, who would it be and what would you ask?

SH: Malcolm X. (I’d ask him) everything.

P&W: Describe yourself in one word.

SH:  Resilient.
