Meet the Millsapian: Ryan Henry

This week’s Millsapian is Ryan Henry, a junior biochemistry major from Pontotoc, Miss. He is an active member of Kappa Alpha, and serves on the IFC Executive Board as Vice-President of Academic Excellence.

The Purple and White: What made you come to Millsaps?

Ryan Henry: Initially, I was recruited to play tennis, but it was the small campus and classes that really sold me.  I loved the idea of being surrounded by classmates and professors I knew really well while getting to play a sport I love.

P&W:  What one thing do you wish you could change most about the campus?

RH: There should definitely be a Chick-fil-A somewhere on campus.

P&W:  What do you plan to do after graduating Millsaps?

RH: I plan on attending medical school after graduation— hopefully right across the street at UMMC.

P&W:  What one thing do you like most about yourself?

RH: My friends.  Each one has personally made my Millsaps experience, and they are the real reason I’m able to make it through each semester.

P&W:  Tell me something embarrassing about yourself.

RH: I nearly run into the card-swipe at the gate on a weekly basis just because I accidentally turn the volume in my car to an odd number.  It has to be even.

P&W:  What do you hope to check off your “bucket list” in the next year?

RH: Freshman year, I told myself I would read the entire Bible before I graduated Millsaps, and since I graduate in a little over a year I probably need to get started on that.

P&W: What has been your high and low of your week?

RH: My low was starting my biochemistry exam. My high was finishing my biochemistry exam eight hours later.

P&W: What’s one thing you miss about being a child?

RH: Mandatory nap time in school; I definitely took that for granted.

P&W: What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?

RH: My dad always told me not to fear failure.  I always try to approach new and/or difficult situations with that attitude.

P&W:  If you were stranded on a deserted island with only one item, what would you choose and why?

RH: I couldn’t think of a way around the question or a single person I would want there with me, so I guess I would just want flint or something that would help me make fire. They always stress that fire is the key to survival on Survivor.

The Purple and White thanks Ryan Henry for answering these questions! If you or someone you know would like to be the next “Meet the Millsapian,” you can email me at clevecd@millsaps.edu
