In this week’s military appreciation game, the Millsaps Majors entered the contest with Birmingham Southern College needing a conference victory after losing to Hendrix 35-30. The Majors started the game well, with a 12-play drive on the opening offensive possession to set the score at 7-0.

The Majors’ offense stalled in the second quarter, and BSC scored once, missing the extra point. The Panthers later drove down the field in the closing minutes of the half to set up a 35-yard field goal to go ahead 9-7. In the third quarter, the Majors managed to tack on a touchdown and extra point to make the score 14-9, but they couldn’t get anything going after that. The Panthers scored again in the fourth quarter to bring the score to 16-14.

In total, the Majors only mustered 32 rushing yards, with 28 coming from running back Raphael Johnson. The passing game performed well under quarterback Zak Thrasher. Thrasher went 12-21 and threw for 116 yards with one passing touchdown. Alex Foust also had a solid game as defensive tackle. He accounted for 12 tackles, three for a loss of yards. Tanner Menist led the receivers with 55 yards.

The Majors will play the Sewanee Tigers at home for the homecoming game Saturday. In order to stay in contention for a Southern Athletic Association title, the Majors need to come away with a victory against the Tigers.
