Fall Sports Recap: How the Majors Performed

With the Fall Sports season coming to an end, here is a recap of how the Millsaps Majors performed in several fall sports. 

The Men’s Soccer team finished their season with a record of seven wins, eight losses and two ties. The Majors advanced to the Southern Athletic Association Conference Tournament, where they defeated Sewanee College 4-1, before losing 2-1 to Centre College, which ended their season. Following their season, senior Alex Bourland and sophomore Tore Schutt were named to the All-Conference First Team. Senior Jan Bergk was named to the All-Conference Second Team, and junior Nathaniel Edwards received an Honorable Mention. 

The Women’s Soccer team had a difficult season, finishing the year with one win, fifteen losses and one tie. They lost in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Conference Tournament, falling 6-0 to Centre College. At the end of their season, senior  Olivia Gattuso and sophomore Kimberly Manley were both named to the SAA Honorable Mention Team. 

The Women’s Volleyball team finished their season with a record of 16-14, advancing to the second round of the SAA conference tournament. Following the end of the season, senior Ashley Zamjahn was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Southern Region Honorable Mention Team.  

The Millsaps Cross Country team travelled to Hampton, Ga., for the Southern Athletic Association Championship Race, where they finished seventh with a team score of 2,017 points. The Majors were led by senior Michael Sullivan who completed the course in 29 minutes and 34 seconds. The Cross Country team also got strong performances from freshmen Hunter Fudge, Trevor Galicki and Samuel Saia as well as sophomore Tyrone McKinney and junior James Armstrong, who all completed the course in under 34 minutes. 

Finally, the Millsaps Football team finished the season 3-7 after a 35-21 loss to Hendrix College on November 11. The Majors finished the season on a five game losing streak after a 3-2 start. However, this year’s team consisted of only 12 seniors, and next year’s team will have many returning and more experienced players.
