If there is one thing local personality/artist Josh Hailey knows how to do, it is put on a party. Hailey spent two years on the road, photographing and interviewing people from each state, then returned to Jackson last year to put it all together. Hailey has held a few events in Jackson over the past year previewing different projects, but Oct. 3 is when it all comes together.
Hailey will debut 500 pieces of art, videos, and interviews, a documentary, 2 books, and a magazine—check out his Facebook or Instagram pages to get a sense of all of his different projects.
Aside from the art itself, the museum is also sponsoring an outdoor barbeque, bands and DJs in the Art Garden starting at 5 p.m. The documentary Hailey made describing his project, “Photamerica: This Land is Art Land” will premiere at 8 p.m. in the Art Garden.
Final word: you don’t want to miss this. Promise. Get updates/get hyped here.

This weekend, the Millsaps Theatre department celebrates the 101st anniversary of the first play ever performed at Millsaps, Shakespeare’s As You Like It.
“Viewers can, number one, obviously expect a great show,” Co-producer Josh May says. “Number two, they can expect the Christian Center auditorium to look fantastic when they walk in. That’s all I’m going to say about that. And then number three, they can expect some great original music.”
Although cast and crew are being exceptionally secretive, from what I can gather, this semester’s production will be unlike anything the department has put on in recent memory. As You Like It will feature a Greek chorus-like ensemble, aptly named “The Muses,” who will perform original music composed by James Martin.
Additionally, the department is back in the Christian Center auditorium, which means ample seating and no awkward Olin lobby.
“Theatre is still very alive and well and this is only the beginning of the total revamping of the theatre department,” May says. So, no matter what your plans for this weekend, find some time to support our theatre department.
Event 3: Open Mic Night
When: Fri. 9:30 p.m.-midnight.
Where: The Bowl, Millsaps College
Price: Free
Something about hanging out on a blanket with friends, listening to a live performers screams college. Of course, another key experience (for the braver among us) is getting up in front of that mic yourself. So, kick your weekend off by showcasing whatever your talents may be for your peers (or you want to watch your peers entertain you). Bring a blanket and hang out in the Bowl as the weather turns cool. You can indulge in free food as well. If you need some extra incentive to perform (besides wowing everyone you know), the top two acts will win Visa gift cards.
