The Purple and White: What made you come to Millsaps?

Day Wilson: Well the honest answer is because I didn’t have to pay an application fee. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I didn’t know which one. I knew this was a good school because my brother toured it and I went with him. I am glad I chose it though.

P&W: I feel you. What are you most looking forward to this school year?

DW: I guess being able to be a part of more clubs. Like I said, I work, so hopefully I’ll be able to do both… like working my job and doing more things and getting to know more people.

P&W: What piece of advice would you offer an incoming freshman?

DW: To be yourself.

P&W: What is your biggest pet peeve?

DW: Oh, gosh. Just one? I hate when people smack, and I hate when people tell me that they’re going to do something and they don’t do it.

P&W: Tell me something embarrassing about yourself.

DW: One time when I was in seventh grade, I was on the basketball team and I scored a goal on the other end and then I slid across the floor to the other side of the gym like a penguin, so my nickname was “penguin” for like a week. It was so bad. I was so devastated. It was my first day there so it was just bad.

P&W: If you could have a one-hour phone conversation with someone from the past, who would you call and why?

DW: Dr. Martin Luther King. He did so much for (black people) in general, but I just wish I could talk to him right now so I could see what he has to say about what’s going on. The things happening right now are just a lot and it shouldn’t be happening.

P&W: Who has had the biggest impact on the person you’ve become today?

DW: Probably my mom, for sure. She sacrificed a lot for me and my brother being a single parent. Just watching her work all the jobs she did and still being able to send us to a private school in high school and the colleges we’re at now…if I could be half the person she is I’ll be satisfied.

P&W: I feel the exact same way about my mom… What could you binge watch for hours and never get tired of?

DW: Probably Pretty Little Liars, even though I know the season just ended. I was obsessed and I was with it for seven years.

P&W: What smell brings back great memories for you?

DW: Pizza, 100 percent.

P&W: Describe yourself in three words.

DW: Sassy, funny and smart.

The Purple and White thanks Day for taking the time to answer these questions! If you or someone you know would like to be featured in the next “Meet the Millsapian” article, please email me at clevecd@millsaps.edu.
