This weekend, the Majors played two soccer games—one against the East Texas Baptist Tigers and the other against the Huntington Hawks. The Majors pulled out a close win, coming back after halftime to beat the Tigers 4-3. After injury sidelined starting goal keeper Jonathan Huebbe, replacement Charlie Edwards made great saves and “gave us a chance to win,” said Coach Volts. In the second game against the Hawks, Edwards played hard and did a fantastic job under the pressure of playing a full game, making seven saves.

Neither team saw any offensive action until the second half of the game against the Hawks. With 36 minutes left, Javier Garcia scored, followed by a Hawks goal with 29 minutes left. With a tied game, tensions were high amongst the fans as the game went into overtime. Lukas Elmhammar scored a penalty kick in the overtime period to put the Majors in the lead and win the game, 2-1.

“We didn’t play our best, with a lot of kids out with injuries, but due to friendship we pulled together as one unit for the win,” sophomore Conner Bancroft said.

The team seems to work very well together and rely heavily on the bond of the group as a whole. “We work really well as a team and it really matters when the game gets tough,” freshman Evan Khodabandeh said.

The Majors will be on the road next weekend to play at Greenville and Webster.
